Description
The Private Tour of the Homewood Apiary will be conducted during the months of May through September. The tour will provide a private and up close experience for the purchaser and their guest. The two hour experience will include, touring the certified pollination gardens, with plant identification and discussion of the Pennsylvania native species that are part of our certified pollination gardens. In addition guests will be suited up for a inside educational opportunity of our honey bee hives at the Apiary. Burgh Bees maintains several colonies at the Homewood Apiary, as well as colonies around the city. We will cover the biology of the honey bee, the workings of the hive, have an opportunity to see the queen bee, her workers, and hold a sting-less drone while taking pictures of yourself and the guest holding photogentic frames of bees and honey.
This is the perfect gift for someone, who loves nature, is interested in gardening and the importance of local pollinators. It also, is a good introduction to see if bee keeping is for you. This is not intended to be a introduction to bee keeping course, and does not prepare you to manage a colony. It does cover a lot of interesting facts and you will come away with a new appreciation for beekeeping, honeybees and the importance that biodiversity plays in our environment.
